In Memory

Gil Hayes

Gilbert Hayes

1945 – 2017

Our classmate Gilbert Hayes died October 26, 2017 due to complications from cancer.  He got his lifelong nickname, Lucky, when he was born in Washington DC on September 7, 1945 weighing 7 pounds and 7 ounces.  He moved with his family to Oakland in 1947.  I well remember Gil and saw him in June at our class reunion where I took this picture.

Gil graduated from San Francisco State in 1977 and earned a surveying and engineering license shortly afterward.  He worked for the City and Port of Oakland as a surveyor and civil engineer for over 30 years.  He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Renton, his wife, Barbara, three siblings, three children, three grandsons, and numerous nieces and nephews.

We will all miss Gil and his cheerful presence.
