Patty Hinch Simpson

1944 to 2014

I learned of the death of Patty Hinch Simpson when I received an email through the class website informing me of her death.  Louise Harris Krusi was kind enough to share her memories of her longtime friend Patty.  I share them below.

"I first met Patty in the second grade at Wildwood School.  We were in Blue Birds and Camp Fire Girls and the Traffic Squad together and then became very close friends in the seventh grade until the ninth grade.  Then we drifted apart.  I  got  married, had a wonderful young  family and Patty was busy going her way, always busy, then she married, then divorced but we remained long distance friends over the years.  We connected at our 20th reunion, Patty always finding me about every 12 years or so.  She seemed to always contact me when she was getting divorced, the first time and then the second time.  Then she contacted me when she moved to Utah to live with her sister Bev.  Patty was having a tough time quitting smoking and asked me to be her support which I was very happy to do.  Patty phoned me to fill me in on her eye operations and her hearing problems.  Then she drifted away again, most likely due to her medical problems, many illnesses, and all most likely connected to the ugly cancer that attacked her.  She found out she had cancer of her throat and it went into her brain.  She sent me an email and I kept updated about her health through Facebook.  She was determined to dance at her son's wedding last October and she did!

"Bev contacted me during the final weeks of Patty's life.  We connected through Bev until the night of her death.  I prayed a lot more than usual those last weeks for Patty.  It's funny how Patty and I had made a special bond all those many years ago, loving each other's friendship as young teens, then disliking each other so much on and off over the years, but always a crazy reconnection of a comfortable friendship, always caring about each other's well being.   Rest in Peace kid."

I remember conversations with Patty before her death. She was a lively girl at PHS and we were always friends. In In 2009, after my wife passed away, she offered encouraging words and referred me to Denys Cope who offered me Hospice comfort. Both were great help in a time of whirling turmoil was going on in my life,
