Lynda King Huff

1944-2014

Lynda King Huff passed away a few days ago.  She was living in Phoenix, Arizona and lost her second husband, Bill Huff, in 2011.  She is survived by her son, three grand children, and one great grandchild.  She wrote a brief autobiography for the 50th Reunion Clan-O-Log, summarizing her life.

"How does one condense fifty years into a certain number of words?  To begin, shortly after graduation, I married Hughes Crumpler (PHS class of 1960). We had one son, Brian, two years later.  Hard to imagine that Brian is now forty eight years old and has made me a Grandmother and Great Grandmother.  I'm totally enamored with my great granddaughter, Lacey Marie, who is now four months old and is guaranteed to keep me young!

"I was fortunate to experience visiting and living in many places with Hughes during his years as a Navy Helicopter Pilot.  Aside from stateside duty stations, we lived in Japan for two years when Brian was eight years old.  That was a tremendous experience for all of us, and only whet my appetite for more travel!  After I got divorced in 1985, I completed my Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at California Lutheran University and was licensed as a Family Therapist in the state of California in 1988.  I had a private practice for a short time, but mostly used my skills as a Social Worker, working with abused and neglected children for Children's Protective Services in Ventura, California.

"After my folks both passed away, and my son was living on his own, I quit my job, bought a small used motor home, and began to travel as a single woman living in a recreational vehicle.  My first solo trip was to Alaska.  I decided that if I could accomplish that trip by myself, I could live my dream of traveling the whole US, Canada, Alaska and Mexico.  What tremendous experiences I had -- seeing awesome scenery, meeting great folks and learning about different cultures. Absolutely nothing negative ever happened that couldn't be fixed by folks with much more mechanical skills than mine.  However, I soon realized that it wasn't much fun to travel alone, so I joined a Singles RV Club and continued to travel with a group; sometimes as small as two or three of us or as large as fifteen of us.  While a part of this group, I met a wonderful man who shared my dreams and values, and we were married in 1995 on Lake Mohave on the deck of a trailerable houseboat he built from his unique design.

"We had a wonderful sixteen years together, continuing to travel until Bill's health began to decline.  At that time, we settled in Arizona, but continued to travel by RV during the hot summer months.  Bill passed away last year, and I'm still in the process of picking up the pieces.  Fortunately, my health is good and I'm hopeful of again returning 'to the road' someday while maintaining a home base in Arizona . . ."

Thank you so much for this notification.  I received this news from Diane Vitale whom I have not seen since graduation; before more years pass us by, I am planning a trip this spring to see her and her family in the Pacific Northwest.  Sadly, Lynda's death was the catalyist for this decision.
