In Memoriam

Helen Hotle Ferrin

August 31, 1943 – May 26, 2020

Helen Ann Hotle Ferrin passed on May 26, 2020.  She was 76.

Helen Hotle Ferrin, lately of Glendale, Arizona, lost her long battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease on May 26, 2020 at the Goldwater Assisted Living home. Betsy Fowler Soeth shared this memory of Helen.  “We met as sophomores at Piedmont High School and continued a close, life-long friendship from that time. Sadly, Helen endured many years of suffering from early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.  Like her family, I am comforted that she has been released from her struggle even as I greatly miss her presence in my life.”

Born August 31, 1942 and raised in Piedmont, California, Helen was the daughter of the late Robert Franklin Hotle and Arline Towne Hotle.  She was preceded in death in 2016 by her beloved husband of 50 years, Ross Robert Ferrin. Helen loved her family, she loved animals, and she loved nature. She had a great talent with horses and dogs.

Earl remembers joining Helen and Ross for lunch when visiting Sedona in May 1995.  Helen trained guide dogs for the blind, and their current dog joined us, happy to sleep under our table as we had lunch.  For many years, Helen trained guide dogs for the blind and talked about what she was doing in her submissions to our newsletter, Highlander Echoes.

She has two daughters, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. We will all miss Helen.
