In Memoriam

Dick Jones

March 3, 1944 – May 18, 2017

Dick Jones passed away on May 18, 2017. He was 73.

I knew Dick at Havens and remember going to his house after school one day.  He had a pet rabbit that hopped all around the yard as Dick tried to catch him.  We renewed our friendship in 1992 working with classmates putting together our 1992 reunion.

Dick was kind enough to allow me to install his Word Perfect on my computer so I could prepare our 1992 Clan-O-Log.  Thanks to Dick, I got the book done. He attended the University of the Pacific Armstrong Business College and was valedictorian.  He then went to McGeorge School of Law and was admitted to the California State Bar in January of 1971.

After law school, he joined the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, went into private practice, worked for the California State Automobile Association where he ran the office of special investigations which investigated employee embezzlement and theft.  He then joined the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office on July 31, 1999 and served a stellar 11-year career until he retired on July 30, 2010. He then moved to Coeur D’Alene, Idaho with his wife Susan.

Dick was born in Edmonton, Alberta and adopted by W. Ernest and Doris Jones three weeks later and brought to Piedmont.  He attended Havens School and Piedmont High, through tenth grade, and then graduated from the Army Navy Academy in Carlsbad, California, where he participated in track and field.

He was memorialized in El Dorado Superior Court in Placerville on July 21, 2017.  He was warmly remembered by his co-workers who related all kinds of stories about Dick.  I thank Susan for sending me a transcript of the memorial.

He is survived by his wife Susan, six children and eight grandchildren. We will all miss Dick.
